Chef Tasty’s Journey: Finance, Science, and a Dash of Mystery

Hello there! I’m Chef Tasty, the passionate soul behind Tasty Referrals. The Tasty Referrals journey began in 2019 while I was a gradaute student in a quantitative medical science field. Before graduate school, I was trapped in a 9-5 job, which stifled my creativity. My biggest concern as I pursued my Ph.D. was the looming threat of another 9-5 job post-graduation. So, I set out on a quest to achieve financial independence and escape the clutches of corporate America. Below is the narrative of my journey and the mission that cooked up Tasty Referrals.

Life Beyond the Cubicle: A Perspective on Existence

A profound sense of perspective often hits us when we contemplate the history of our planet. If you ever take a walk through a science museum, you’d be standing before the remnants of creatures that once roamed this very earth millions of years ago. Reflect on the staggering fact that 99.9% of all species that ever existed on this planet are now extinct. We, humanity, are part of the fortunate 0.1% that currently inhabit this ancient sphere.

Imagine the hardships faced by our predecessors – from primordial creatures striving for survival, to human ancestors enduring mass extinctions, wars, famines, and diseases. These struggles make us realize that our mere existence, especially in the comfortable environments of the Western world, is a privilege in and of itself.

Yet, so many of us live our lives ignoring this extraordinary reality. We allow ourselves to be endlessly distracted by jobs that don’t fulfill us, jobs that often feel like golden handcuffs. From an early age, we’re typically taught to follow the beaten path: go to college, get a 9-5 job, save for a house, retirement, etc. Essentially, we’re rarely encouraged to think outside the box. This often leads to us becoming shackled to a corporate machine, rather than truly savoring the marvel of existence.

This realization changed everything for me. It shaped my perspective on what truly matters. It’s my belief that life isn’t just about surviving but fostering our passions. I invite you to join me on this journey, to strive for financial liberation and seize the opportunity to savor the precious and brief life we have been granted.

Navigating the Markets: The Birth of a Self-Taught Trader

You may be wondering how this blog started. As fate would have it, I developed a passion for the financial markets that dated back to 2008 when I made my first $1,000 in the stock market. It wasn’t all smooth sailing, though. My journey was filled with ups and downs, and I experienced some heavy losses along the way. I even blew up not one, not two, but three accounts before I truly began to understand the intricacies of trading.

Throughout my trials and tribulations, I capitalized on my experiences, teaching myself how to trade stocks, options, and futures while attending graduate school full time. Eventually, I learned that the secret to success in the financial markets lies in patience, persistence, and a consistent winning strategy.

My passion for financial markets led me to create Tasty Referrals. The blog’s first article was a review of tastytrade (formerly known as tastyworks), a Chicago-based online brokerage firm that offers trading in various financial instruments. As an avid user of tastyworks, I wanted to share my positive experience and promote the platform. The fact that tastyworks had a generous referral program (and still does!) was an added incentive.

I continued to write reviews about the financial, shopping, and side hustle products I personally used, and within two years, the blog attracted over 40,000 unique monthly visitors and generated six figures in annual revenue.

You Can Succeed Without Prior Experience

My hope is that my story and this blog inspire you to achieve financial freedom and break free from jobs that don’t fulfill you. If you’re feeling lost and don’t know where to start, you are not alone! When I started, I had no prior experience with blogging. Although I had some computer programming experience from my engineering background, it only gave me a slight edge in customizing the appearance of this blog. The truth is, you don’t really need coding experience to start a blog these days.

One of the most important skills I had to pick up along the way was search engine optimization (SEO). After all, I wasn’t the only one who wanted to make easy money. Mastering SEO helped me stay competitive, but I still lose my search ranking to people smarter than me every day. It’s something that you will have to learn as you go along by reading articles, watching tutorials, and using some paid software and plugins.

With the right mindset and skills, you too can achieve financial freedom and live a life that fulfills you.

A No-Nonsense Approach to Quality Content

Tasty Referrals stands out as a different kind of blog. You won’t find any click-bait articles or an overwhelming number of ads here. In fact, you will not find any ads on this blog. I understand that no one wakes up in the morning eager to see more ads, so I’ve made a conscious effort to keep the blog clean, allowing you to find what you want quickly and without dodging intrusive ads or battling annoying pop-ups.

My priority is to maintain accuracy in the information provided on the blog. However, please note that some referral bonuses might occasionally differ from what’s mentioned on the site, simply because I wasn’t quick enough to update the pages when the referral programs were updated.

I also want to be fully transparent about the affiliate nature of some products mentioned on this blog. If you choose to use the referral links/codes provided, I may receive a commission. To show my gratitude to the community that helped me build a successful blog, I donate a portion of my earnings to the American Cancer Society.

Fueling a Passion for Science and a Brighter Future

Although Tasty Referrals is a side hustle for me, it has enabled me to pursue my other passion: Science. After earning my Ph.D., I founded a science communication platform that disseminates audio and visual content, breaking down complex scientific ideas for subscribers.

I firmly believe that science is the cornerstone of our modern society, shaping the world in ways that were once unimaginable. It has driven human progress by advancing technology, medicine, and our understanding of the universe. Embracing science is not only a wise choice but a vital necessity for the continued growth and prosperity of our global community.
